The Visit
My sister sat next to me in a vacant subway car. We didn't have anything to talk about so I looked at the posters on the wall. The one directly in front of me was written in spanish. I wanted to know what it said but I knew I would never know. My sister was reading a magazine, her three fingers spread across the shiny cover. Her nails were long, smooth and painted a sheer pink. The car stopped at Union Square and a few people shuffled in. I looked at every face. My sister glanced at a man's shoes. We were practically out of the door when she looked behind me and said " You forgot your bag!" I jumped, grabbed it and peered at the spanish writing as I ran to catch up to her.
